Begun in 1990 over a lunch discussion at a local
golf course, The County Open Weekend has now evolved
into the largest annual fundraising event for the
Health Services Foundation. Originally began as a
two-day golf tournament and Gala Dinner, the County
Open has now expanded to include a half-marathon
(one of only three in the State of Maine), a
half–marathon relay, and 25-mile bike race. To date
these events have raised over $325,000 to the
Foundation.
Through the dedicated efforts of over 50 volunteers,
The County Open Weekend sees over 500 individuals
from around the country participate in one event or
another. In addition, over 125 sponsors contribute
to its success, making the County Open a win-win
situation for both the community and the
Foundation.
